James Sizemore is an accomplished talent in the music industry with notable credits in film and television. Most recently, James provided music programming and oversaw the technical music production of the Oscar nominated film Hugo. With a versatile background in many musical styles, he has ranged from the big broadway musical numbers written for the recent Orenthal:The Musical (currently in post production) to the ambient soundscapes heard in the acclaimed soundtrack to Twilight: Eclipse, and the drum programming and ambient music to the score of Edge of Darkness. On another recent film, Rabbit Kadabra!, James composed, orchestrated, and conducted the score for this breathtaking animated short.

James grew up playing in orchestras and later went on to study classical composition and orchestration, receiving a formal music education at Colorado College, and later NYU, where he also taught on the faculty for 3 years. He quickly branched out from orchestral music and went on to perform as a drummer for bluegrass, jazz, and punk bands, as a solo pianist for bars and restaurants, as an electronic artist, and as part of Balinese gamelan ensembles, African drum ensembles, and experimental music ensembles. This diverse musical background can be heard in the backbeats of the fashion film Seamless, or Relative Obscurity, which features pieces for acoustic bluegrass groups along with pieces for processed electronics and live orchestra.

Today, the drive behind most of James Sizemore’s music is his love for film and the wonderful synergy between image and music, but his love of technology has also led to work in music production. He has had the opportunity to work with a wide range of artists ranging from Wu-Tang Clan to Branford Marsalis, and has great appreciation for how technology shapes the sound of a musical composition. He has provided a variety of production services such as editing, recording, mixing, and studio design consulting. James has been active in doing research and development in network audio, data compression, and machine musicianship.
